Sidelight flashes when indicator should

Post by scirocco »

Offside front sidelight flashes when the indicator should I've tried swapping the green and red wires around but the same happens. Any ideas? I've also cleaned the earth on the inner wing and near the flasher relay. Still no joy.
Thanks for any help.

sounds like a bad earth, the side/indicator lights earth through the lamp base to the wing . I would try cleaning this up first but it may also be beneficial to wire in an earth wire to the lamp body

The red wire is for the sidelight, the green one for the indicator. Good earth essential.

Has it done this since you got it, or is it a new fault? If the former then trace the wiring all the way back to the switch in case a previous owner got it wrong. If the latter then definitely an earth problem - emery cloth inside the fitting and the side of the bulb as well as using an earth wire.

It IS a bad earth - unless you have put the bulb in wrong way round! Which is supposedly not possible - but CAN be done.

Check that it has the correct bulb in there. I've seen where a single contact bulb has been squeezed in where a double contact should be and it jumpered across the two contacts.
