Restoring Sunvisors?

Hello

I've just bougt my first ever Morris Minor 1000. She's absolutely gorgeous, but in need of a bit of a spruce up. My sunvisors were filthy and totally jammed so I thought i'd start with them.
They've cleaned up a treat but I have no idea how to get them moving again!
I'd be grateful for any ideas!

Hi Kitty, welcome to the forum.

Just some oil on the hinges should do the trick, 3-in-1 type oil and wiggle the hinges until they're moving freely

as david said a bit of oil on the hinges i tend to use WD40.. leave it a while to soak in before moving the sunvisor up and down

Hello Carolyn, and welcome. The car looks lovely, but I can't quite work out the year. If it's pre 1963 then you'll have simple fold down sun visors. The later cars had the ones that fold down and swivel to one side - there should be plastic clips over both the windscreen and the doors to hold the end of the visor.

The visor has a wire frame that turns round a metal shaft. The shaft / rod is only a few inches long, it doesn't go all the way through. The visors, hinges, and clips are all readily available; and you can even have them with a vanity mirror fitted.

The car looks lovely, but I can't quite work out the year. If it's pre 1963 ...

Looking at the seats I would say it was 64 onwards but hardly a way of telling for certain...

The picture is of a Series 5 facelift car so I would assume we are talking about the later type of visors. They usually seize up and then you end up breaking the rods inside the visor.....

Scary thing is, I know where that photo was taken

Late Series 5 car is My guess, the silver wheels would point to being a late 60s/70s - prob H or J plate (but then again, no garuntee)

Thanks for all the advice! And look.. I have come back!!
I'm pleased to say that the sunvisors are back and in perfect working order. Though a vanity mirror would be rather nice.

So Dan, do you really know where this photo was taken??! ( But you're right about the year, it is indeed an H reg)

You could always buy a stick on mirror and fix it to the back of the visor

I'm pretty sure the pic was taken in the blocks of flats facing onto Oundle Road, next to the Neane Valley Railway carpark (Cubitt Way?)

Or even the Nene Valley? The river is pronounced as either the Neene or the Nen, but always spelt Nene. Don't tell me, the local Council can't get its street names correct?

It is the Nene but I don't live next to it... shame... there's lots of lovely swans on the river. I'm the other side of town.
