Traveller Woodwork - my mother's love affair with her Morris

Dear All,

I'm sorry to bother you, but I hope that you can help me please. My mother coveted a Morris Minor for many years and to her delight, she managed to buy a traveller a few years ago.

She loves it unbelievably, but unfortunately, the woodwork has never been properly looked after and is starting to rot. The only solution, of course, is to replace it, but after having it assessed at a Morris 'hospital', she has been told it will cost £5,000 at least to do.

I wish that I had the money to pay for it to be fixed, but I have literally only just finished university and with the repairs being so expensive, my father is threatening to sell it.

My mum has invested a lot of money and love already into the car and i'm worried it would break her heart to have to sell it. Thus I have come to you to ask whether you know of anywhere that would carry out the repairs less expensively. I know that I have not given you much information about the nature of the problem but I could find that out easily enough. I would be eternally grateful and forever indebted to you if you would advise me on what to do.

£5k?!!! Take it to Woodies (Steve Foreman) and it should be about half that amount. See their price list at http://www.morriswoodwork.co.uk/

Welcome to this site - you've come to the right place. If you fill in where you are located in the country I'm sure we will be able to suggest some repairers that may be able to help your Mother.

Thank you! We live in Milton Keynes, but I imagine my mum would be happy to travel (in England) to have the repairs done!

If the car has a current MOT I would suggest giving Steve Forman a ring (look at the website mentioned above) and taking the car down to him. He will be able to give you an honest answer as to what needs doing and an estimate of costs.

might be worth trying chertsey minors they are not too far from you and they did some welding recently for me were good and reasonably priced

Yes good idea, but I think Tinkerbell needs to re-wood as well. Can they offer this service?
