Had the same problem
Buy a good quality moulded set such as Newton Commercial if you can, if not the cheaper sets can be made to look reasonable
Use spray adhesive where necessary
Fit carpet clips. You may have to lengthen the floor studs if underfelt is fitted. They do hold the front carpet in position if fitted correctly
Position the front carpet under the gear lever rubber cover retaining plate and fit the retaining screws
Don't forget that the front carpet will need to be lifted occasionally for maintenance to brake cylinder, gearbox oil and steering
I did get the cheap set to look reasonable in the end

I have had a set from BM for 7 years (I had a non standard colour as the red (maroon) didn't really "go" with the Cherokee red interior.) It has worn very well given the use it has had.
Remember the pieces that cover the sills are too long and have to be adapted to fit, likewise the piece that fits under the rear seat (especially on 4 drs) as we all know no ones car is exactly the same measurement
