How do you change the chrome grille surround?

The surround is in three pieces - the top bar and the two "hocky sticks" on either side. They are all held on with bolts behind the grill. These will be probably hard to get off, so try soaking with oil and penetrating fluid before you try

On later cars there is an additional trim around the grille apperture. This is secured with T bolts and nuts which go through the front panel....

And unless you're really lucky, lots of them will snap when you try and undo them! I've replaced mine with stainless to avoid that problem!

A good plan if the nuts/studs are corroded and likely to result in the studs shearing off is to use a small nut splitter tool or carefully grind off the nuts with a Dremel tool or simelar and replace the nuts with new afterwards.

Sorry I meant the chrome that directly surrounds the grille, not the hockey stick bits. I'll take a look and see what condition the bolts are before I go ahead and order a new surround.

the chrome surround round the grille is mounted with nylon nuts (at least it has been on the morri I've owned) ... I found that many of these nuts will tend to strip themselves and have to be cut off, I think you can buy replacements though (I was lucky and had two sets, the ones from the donor and the existing ones - just about managed to make up a full set between them)
