Removal of top swivel pin from shock absorber arm

Post by ruislipboy »

Hi can any one tell me which is the best way to get the top swivel pin from shock absorber arm. I have tried heating it up and taping the circumference of the eye but I just can not get it to move.
Thanks

If it doesn't work, you're not hitting it with a big enough hammer.

Really best to NOT remove it! Rarely necessary.

Even our local Moggie specialist says if the dont come out with a couple of goes on the fly press we don't bother as customers don't really want to pay for the labour involved in trying to get out a item that costs a few pounds, but as Roy says why do you need to remove it.

Tapered Pin that goes into the shock absorber arm and goes through the top trunnion? Think thats the same thing!

Mine just came out with a good sharp blow, and so did the other one too.
Probably assembled on a friday in the factory.....

I assumed the question related to how to get this pin out of the top of the assembly, which is the impossible job. I've certainly left mine alone after a couple of unsuccesful attempts.

To get the pin out of the suspension arm is a matter of a couple of sharp hits with a hammer onto the eye of the arm, with something like a lump hammer on the other side to take the force. Comes out quite easily then.
