Brake Shake

When I brake quite hard at speed, e.g. coming up to a roundabout on a dual-carriageway, the front left wheel seems to be wobbling about. Its fine otherwise when I am driving.

Coincindentally, I was having just the same prob recently, and identified a worn tie-rod ball joint as the source of the wobble. Have you tugged the wheel about to see if anything's loose that shouldn't be?

It could be wheels out of balance accentuated when braking. I had a new pair of front tyres fitted and the wheels balanced which cured the problem. I would also agree that the tie rods should be checked first, then the trunnions. Go for the cheapest options first

Check out the bushes too whilst you are at it....

I agree - check the suspension first - especially the tie-rod, it's bushes at the front (and the security of the anchor point on the chassis!) and the little bolt - and the clamp that locates it to the lower arm. Sometimes these break - and only one leg is holding the tie-bar. If all ok then suspect an out-of-round brake drum. Swap it with the one on the other side to see if the problem follows the drum.
