Heya guys and girls :)

I'm new to the forum here and would like to say 'hi' it's nice to meet you all, and I hope I can become a valid member of the forum before long :)

I have a pretty weird but straight forward question to ask someone here on the forum, I'm coming into a lovely Morris Minor 1098cc engine and gearbox as you've most likely noticed from the topic subject.

Could anyone give me the details of the rough weight of the 1098cc engine and gearbox?

Thanks for the warm welcome and no worries about not knowing the rough engine weight, it's not something that's easily findable from what I've been looking through on google.

Can't seem to find many engines that list the weight to be honest, other then little ones used for small generators.

I'll hang around a couple of hours more this evening and see if anyone else could come up with a rough weight.

The manual says engine = 252 lb, gearbox = 44 lb.
You have come to a good place for information and advice.

Awesome fella! I knew someone would know!

I thank you most kindly for the rooting about you must have done finding out the information for me, I'm going to be picking the engine and gearbox up in the morning some time and I'd like to get some nice images of her here on the forum.

She's bound to need a bit of tidying up done, but doesn't everything that's been stood for a little while. When I mean a little while I'm on about 6~8 months in a garage attached to someones home.

If she is a non-runner I'm going to have to get working on fixing her up a little and looking around for some spare parts and I'm hopeing the forum will come into play a bit more there, also gives me a good chance to meet more of the users of the Morris forum.

I've got no major plans for the engine it's self at the moment as it was more of a spur of the moment offering, but I've always loved Morris motors as a child and this will be my first ownership of something Morris.

I'm the type of person to get it running then mount it in the living room to be honest in a lively glass box, while every now and again starting it up and keeping her on form :) Better then a painting on the wall eh :)

You will find that the engine and gearbox are much more enjoyable when attached to a car. Then you can watch bits going up and down and round and round.

Heya fellas,

Well I'm home now, picked up the Morris engine and gearbox it's looking really good in my mind.. Some of you may look on this with other views.

The engine works, so we've been told and last fired up a couple of months ago before it was taken out for some kind of V8 to be put into it's place.

I'm just uploading a few images of the engine and fear not, it's not staying in the garden! just while we were bringing it home it tilted and shuffled around in the boot of the car an spilt some oil, I did not want this all over the place so have left the engine and gearbox to sit in a box with some newspaper under it for a while to clear some of it up before moving it around the house.

Hope alls well to be honest now I've got to get myself some kind of a manual and start to clean her up, all help and advice would be most welcome, good or bad, honestly all help is most welcome!

To start with if anyone could help me ID the engine, I've seen a few numbers on the side but was not sure..

Looks like a 1098/948 to me. Can't really help more than that without an engine number

I am no expert, it looks like a 1098 clutch and g/box. The dissy doesn't look right to me, but I am probably wrong.

Its a 1098 gearbox without any doubt - what throws me is the vented rocker cover

i think it is a 1098cc engine but might be wrong looks like my old one i sold which was a 1098cc engine

Thanks for all the lovely replies to my thread :)

I'm cleaning parts atm, yeah it's late but might as well get stuck-in!

I'm planning on building a Electrolytic derusting bath as well, not to hard to setup really. Plastic 50L underbed storage container, car battery charger and some washing soda ;)
