Oh yes, Whiskey is made locally. They say its all in the water (Ever seen Alan Titchmarsh sampling all those types of Scotch, where the water had passed through various types of rock?), of which we have something of an excess at present   . I'm not a whiskey drinker and I don't think I've ever tried Welsh Whiskey. Now a pint of Brains SA is another matter  .

Almost every country in the world makes something they call "whisky" Japan and India spring to mind but looking here:http://www.whiskytime.ch/en/whisky-fact ... countries/Suggests America, Canada and Ireland are also major producers.

If memory serves me correctly it's called Penderyn ... I've not tried it myself, bought a bottle for me da, but he has yet to open it ... One of my work colleagues who it both welsh and into his whisk(e)y says it's pants, but hey he prefers the more peaty ones where as I prefer something smooth myself.

The best whisky makers are the scotch.

I think that should be 'the Scots', or 'the Scottish'. I have a Scottish friend - he doesn't mind being called 'Scotch', but he is strongly aware of the mistake!

I did a quick Google for Indian Whisky to ensure I wasn't talking nonsense and came up with this interesting fact.
Amrut is the first Indian whisky to meet EU regulations :o I hate to think what the others fail on.

Penderyn is very nice and smooth. I still have a little in a bottle that's taken me nearly two years to finish.

Hello Blaketon,

"I'm not a whiskey drinker and I don't think I've ever tried Welsh Whiskey. Now a pint of Brains SA is another matter"

I don't know if you are aware that both beer and whisky start with the same process, i.e starting with a grain mash and fermenting it. Whisky in essence is distilled beer (albeit without any hops in the brew.)
