Wheel studs

One of my wheel studs has snapped when tightening up one of the nuts.
I'm going to replace all the studs now but just wondered what the process is as none of my manuals cover this?
What do I need to remove to get to the nuts and how do I get the nuts out?
I'm thinking half-shafts and hammers.

They are 'splined' to the hubs - so you need to knock them out -carefully, so you don't damage the hubs - and then draw the new ones in with several steel washers and a reversed wheel nut - so the flat is against the washers! Either that stud has been badly abused in the past - or you are applying FAR FAR too much torque.

Remove the brake drum and knock them inwards?

I'm pretty sure I'm not over-torquing it.
Mike - I'm hoping it's just a case of removing the drum and then knocking them in but I suspected it may be more difficult than that.

Maybe an applicaion of Plus gas would help

No -it's as easy as that - someone else may have overtightened them in the past - or they may have been run with the wheel loose some time in the past. I believe front and rear studs are slightly different lengths - don't mix them up.

Bull Motif confirm what I thought - and list front wheel stud (short) and rear wheel stud (long).
I think they know what they are doing!

Yes - ESM also list short and long studs - slightly more expensive than BM!

Pretty soon I'll have replaced every single part of my car I think.

The long ones may be slightly difficult to fit to the front hubs - that's why they should be short ones !

Ah, yes. Good point. When I said "all" I meant all 4 on that wheel. I didn't think about the others but I can see the sense in it now you mention it.

Not really - I was just going by what you said. INSPECT them ALL carefully!
