dampener bolt

Post by brendan »

can anybody tell me if it is dangerous to drive my morris minor with the bolt that holds the dampener to the body has sheared away due to rust and needs to be welded back on, is it okay to drive it in this condition, any advice would be appreciated,
thank you

I wouldn't drive any car if the damper has come away from the chassis as the handling/roadholding will be unsafe & very unpredictable. plus if your stopped by the police they wont be impressed

not sure exactly where you mean but yes dangerous to drive if any part of the suspension has sheared off

Assuming this is a rear damper - and it's the fixing on the 'chassis' leg for the link arm that has broken away - you really shouldn't drive the car, although a trip to a garage to have it fixed will be ok - provided you take it easy! It's likely to need quite a bit of welding - if that fixing has broken away.
