Traveller People Carrier

Post by LordAnthony »

Hello,

I have 3 kids, a Fiat Multipla and a Saloon. One of them has to go and I've decided to keep the kids and the Morris 1000, so it will have to be the Multipla.
What I'd like to do is to see if it would be possible to fit an an extra seat in the back of a traveller. Does anyone think this is possible or is this as much of a ridiculous idea as it sounds?

I'm sure it's possible, it may just fall foul of the ubiqutous 'health and safety' brigade....... It'll probably be the seat belt mounting points that get you!

One issue you could have is insurance. There are some classics listed for 5 people, but a Minor isn't one of them.

Oct 06: back from Dresden with my Trabant 601 Kombi
Jan 07: back from a month thru North Africa (via Timbuktu) in a S3 Landy
June 07 - back from Zwickau Trabi Treffen
Aug 07 & Aug 08 - back from the Lands End to Orkney in 71 pickup
Sept 2010 - finally gave up breaking down in a SII Landy...
where to break down next?
2013... managed to seize my 1275 just by driving it round the block :(

Interesting. I have never heard of this and have fitted seatbelts for 5 occupants. :o
Older and more confused than I could ever imagine possible.

not that uncommon to carry 3 children in the rear - with correctly fitted belts I don't see why there should be a problem, but insurance companies class the minor as 4 seater, and that is rather off-putting.
Not quite the same as adding more seats in a traveller though.

Can't see a problem if everyone has a seat belt. Just don't attach it to the seat back!

Yeah, and bolting the seats down is no major hardship, just drill some holes and weld nuts on the other side, maybe weld in an extra plate to spread the load, but so long as you are sensible I cant see any actual safety issues ... insurance might be a different thing, but if you are over-careful then I cant imagine insurers being that difficult with you.

After all, they want your money.

Remember that the trav has a "false floor" I wouldn't really want to sit anyone on that......
