Post by pegasus »

Just thought i would share this with you, it started with a cracked nearside front spring hanger. New photos will be added weekly.

there does seem to be a trend with them at the moment, i was going to start this one next year but it was brought forward a little.
The off side was started yesterday, the spring hanger was cut out and replaced and all the new sill panels were collected today and most of the rotten ones are now cut out. Just need some more nice weather so i can put it back together.

There was a hole in the roof this had to be welded up and then a new guttering was fitted
Image
Removing the off side tread revealed the same problem as the near side
Image
These are the last lot of photos for the moment, today we removed the roof and one side of wood, we trial fitted the new side incase it needed some alterations before varnishing. (thats my son peering out of the car)
Image

Image

Image
If it doesn't work, you're not hitting it with a big enough hammer.

I made cardboard templates of all of the patterns and transfered them to the metal, These were then welded together on the inside and outside (so there are no gaps for the weather to get through). Then they were linished down into shape. There is a nice run of weld down the inside of the joints so they are really strong. I havent closed off the bottom of the post yet so i can get some waxoyl up there first.

I got the 2 sides in a job lot of spares that i bought, but the nearside front wheel arch section was broken and i had no replacement rear doors, so i got these from Traveller timbers. They have made a very good job of them.
I have a bit more welding to do and then i can start on the body work and respray before fitting the wood on permanently, but i will post more photos when i have them.
I have been watching your posts with intrest you are making a very nice job of your traveller, keep the photos coming.
All the best
