Woodpecker!!!!!

Post by biffabacon »

I have just become the proud owner of a 1959 2 door saloon :D , which has been fitted with a 1098 engine. But the problem is the fuel pump, it has been replaced by a one of unknown origin (some nasty plastic looking thing!)and has a tendancy to sound like a woodpecker, i do not meen a faint tapping this is full on, loud tapping which can be heard over the engine even whilst out on the road :o it's not pleasant, anyway does anyone know of an alternative electronic pump i can fit such as facet, if so which model/part No. or am i better off going back to an SU. The thing is I've had problems with SU fuel pumps in the past with other cars i have owned, which slightly puts me off.
Also how can i tell if a 1098 gearbox has been fitted? What are the differences between it and the box from a 948?

pump

LO, you can still buy a BRAND NEW original type fuel pump
from various dealers. Re the gearbox, if you look at the outer
casing under the car it should have ribs in it. the earlier boxes
had a smooth casing. If the present pump is ticking fairly rapidly
it could be that you have an air leak between the tank and the
pump inlet.
