I have a dark blue traveller which I bought from an old man who had kept it in a garage for 15 years.
He told me hat he bought it at a government surplus auction and never used it.
It has had a plate fitted acros the top of the front bumper at some time as the braket holes are there. It has also had something fitted to the roof of the cab just in front of the rubber seal.
It had had new front wings put on (steel) before being auctioned.
the old guy said it was possibly an ex-coast guard vehicle because of the colour and would have had a blue light on top. but I remember the royal navy having blue moggies which were used by shore patrols and these could have had lights on the top.
What other signs do I look for to find out its history?

HM Coastguard sure did have them, and would have ahad a blue lamp as well as (often yellow roofs!) So that they could be seen from the air and easily spotted by the helicopter, a practice continued to this day!
