The 1100 goes!

Post by linearaudio »

After a hands-on crash course on rebuilding an Austin 1100 ( bought as a basket case abandoned project, never played with one before), She fired up yesterday morning, a year after being stripped! I was immediately struck by how different the sound is from the moggy, much more "modern" sounding.

Now the quandry- this was bought as a first car for the boy. He's never wanted an old car until he met his last girlfriend, who is into "proper" Mini's. She is also into piercing, so boy now has a tongue stud

The inevitable has happened- true love doesn't seem to last long with the young ones!- Girl gone back "up north", 1100 is no longer "cool" :-?

At least I will be able to find a good home for the car, but methinks he is stuck with a lisp for a while. How long does a perforated tongue take to heal?

A couple of weeks of walking everywhere - and he may 'warm' to the 1100!

It doesn't. He will always have a small hole there now...

Why sell it? - Is it pre 73?
If so, have it on a multiple car classic insurance policy. Tax is free...

I've been hankering after a pre 73 1300 4 dr - prefferably in BRG

 Tounge studs, I can't think of anything I'd want less, voluntarily at least!
true love doesn't seem to last long with the young ones!
Most of my mates have lasted a few months with a girl max. If a girl doesn't agree with my taste in motors though she can hit the highway. Not that many show interest in me to start with!
but methinks he is stuck with a lisp for a while. How long does a perforated tongue take to heal? icon_rolleyes.gif
Depending on how long he's had it the lisp could be temporary until he gets used to it, or permenant. Whoops! :o

An 1100 isn't worth that much really ont he market unless in good condition, probably worth a grand or so. Minters and rarer versions will sell for about 3-4k occasionaly.
Although keeping it would be nice... nothing quite as pretty as a classic car sitting on a driveway or strech of road... :D

If he keeps that tongue piercing nice and clean, it'll take about 2 weeks.

Tongue piercings are great, (especially on a woman..) They just need keeping clean.

As for your 1100, why not keep it? They drive lovely, much better than a Minor if we are honest. The handling of a Mini with a lot more room, a much underrated car.

I think Molly would get jealous! You are right, of course, another brilliant design landmark in our impressive heritage! Shame they rusted, but then so did the Anglias and Vivas!

If it (sorry, she) gets sold it will be to a carefully vetted, caring owner. In fact I have just the lady in mind. Old cars like ours deserve to be appreciated, like old people :-?

IMO piercings are best kept to the ears and to females but it's a free world I suppose. I think you should keep the 1100, it's a nice looking car and probably not too exepensive to keep. Tell your son he can channel his love in to the Austin, it will be more rewarding :)

I have a funny feeling ""channelling his love" in the car was in his mind somewhere
