Filler, Dum Dum, Putty or What?

I'm in the process of removing all the old filling between the woodwork and the body. I was expecting to find Dum Dum i.e black and rubberish but this, once you scrape a bit away is grey and looks and feels a bit like putty.

What should be used as a sealant around the wood?

Dum Dum seems to be the stuff everyone uses its non setting and fairly easy to apply.

My traveller had a mixture of dum dum, a non setting grey mastic strip (like the stuff used on the gearbox cover - looks a bit like grey blu tack (this was in neat strips around the wheel arches) and a plastic sealant like the old Bostic plastic sealant used for the roof guttering seal - this was on the rear timber mounts.

I think that the Dum Dum is the only modern equivalent available now.

I dont know what to use for the gutter seal and will probably use a cellulose filler built up in layers unless anyone knows of a better material??

I use roofing mastic on some of the joints.

Thanks all I've got the Dum Dum now and seems like this can be used everywhere. Whatever this grey non-setting stuff is - must be the same as Taupe is talking about. it is actually very nice soft filler and much easier to scrape out layers - getting Dum Dum off is a b*****

Gently warm the old dum dum with a hair dryer, should soften it enough to dig out

Told my girl I just had to forget her,rather buy me a new cartburettor,
