Metro electronic distributor wiring

Having read the interesting bit in Minor Matters about fitting the metro electronic dizzy to the moggy, I have got hold of one, but can't get any life out of it (on the bench with a drill-drive, not in situ, thankfully!)

Does anyone know how to connect it up? I was assuming one side of coil would be earthed, with the dizzy in line with the power feed,( for no reason that I can think of). It only has two wires, one black/white, the other yellow/white.

HELP!!

Hello LA,

if it is a conventional, old style electronic distributor, doesn't it connect as a points one. I.e. power to the distributor (yellow\white or is that white\yellow?) and white\ black connecting the coil -ve to the distributor.?

Right- confession time- I thought that also, due to having a black/white from coil to dizzy already, but no joy, not even a low voltage spark on connecting power up. Then tried various other configurations, assuming Mr Lucas would have reverse polarity proofed it (ha ha). No glimmer of life, or impending death, in any way. Guess she's a dead-un!

Just stick with good old points - they work fine on anything up to a full race engine !

Most people I know that fitted them to Minis went back to old type dizzys in the end as there was no real advantage with leccy ones.

WOAH!! No wonder I couldn't get a song out of it!! Can't quite get my head round how that works, but I'll give it a go!

Giving up with points as they seem to wear quicker nowadays, and I want as few things to worry about as possible!

Points are no worry - and they are nice and simple and easily 'fixed' when they go wrong. I just carry a complete dizzy in the spares kit !

OK just had this job done on Albert as part of a RR tune.

Original B/W = Not required
Original W = to + coil

Dizzy B/W = to - coil
Dizzy W = to + coil

I have a negative earth car if that makes a difference.

That agrees with the link "paulj" gave- thanks for the confirmation.

Wish I could afford to have Rolls Royce set up my cars

BMC- Yes, I have a spare dizzy in the boot, but would still prefer not to need it!!! How often does Lucas electronic ignition die? I can keep a spare s/h amplifier(quicker to fit than a dizzy) if I get paranoid about it!
