Mountney steering wheel horn push

Hi I have a used Mountney wheel which apparantly was fitted to a Minor, has a horn push, the standard Morris horn wire/spring stick up too far to assemble the Mountney horn push which just has a single button contact underneath. Do I just remove the circlip and discard the spring? I'm guessing as I haven't got the instructions and can't find the info on the web

Won't you need the spring for the contact to be made? Maybe by shortening the spring and/or the pin you can get the length right. My brother had the same problem on his Spitfire. The previous owner had calculated how much wire was needed to cater for turning lock-lock, and had an outside loop of wire connecting the horn push to the loom! Looked horrible and got snagged every time you got in the car

take the circlip off and spring, keep them anyway, and you can then pull the horn wire up a bit to make contact with the underside of the hornpush and solder it on,

Thanks guys I have just taken circlip and spring off and it works, haven't soldered it on yet though. Must say the centre is not as pretty as the standard Morris one! Might try and make something that looks nicer

I'm not sure what the centre of your wheel is like but if it is like mine then the std horn push can be made to fit. Much better than a bit of black plastic. ( yes I know it is purple, that has been corrected and is red again)<br>

Looks much better yes.....where did that alloy centre bit come from with the allen screws, is it part of your mountney wheel? I haven't got that - just a hole about (I'm guessing) 4" in diameter Large diameter bit of black plastic

The alloy bit in the centre is turned aluminium and came with the wheel, the brand of which I am not sure. It is one of those that looks like another better brand but isn't.
The dash is made out of a bit of an old cabinet, modified out in the garage during one of those " I wonder if it is possible to do this" phases. It gives new meaning to "dashboard".
