Rebuilding the rear suspension

Post by youngun »

Got lots of nice new shiny things on order. So, some questions.
Im using polybushes for everything, what sort of grease should I be using with them?
My car originally had 7 leaf springs on but Ive got a set of nearly 5 leave ones, this should be fine shouldnt it?

Any tips for rebuilding the rear suspension?

thanks,
YG

the leaf spring question.. if it is a saloon / convertible then yes 5 leaf springs are fine and are standard. if you have a traveller then no you should go with 7 leaf springs the back end of the traveller is that much heavier than a saloon

My poly bushes are just the ones from ESM, probably best to use white grease anyway?

I got my poly bushes from Bull Motif, and they never mentioned greasing them when I purchased. So I didn't grease them..... will this be a problem then? They are green in colour...

They may squeak! Use an aerosol of spray grease and give them a blast. Ideally - you should slacken off - rest the weight of the car on the supension - spray in some grease - tighten everything up!

no yg you do not need to panic you have the correct springs for you car, you will find that the back sits a bit lower.. never seen the desire to fit 7 leafs to a saloon they always make the car look odd in my opinion.

Early Minors had thin 7 leaf springs. If you want to minimise axle tramp and/or carry regular heavy loads in a saloon - then the 7 leaf Traveller springs are a VERY good idea! Only if you can find some that are not made of chocolate of course - and wilt within days !

the early saloon 7 leaf springs are the same rating as the later 5 leaf saloon springs.
People confuse the early 7 leaf saloon springs with the later Traveller 7 leaf springs, but the Traveller are higher rated.
