Annoying popups

Is anyone else experiencing this new type of popup?

Image is a bit small, sorry. They all look similar and have varying topics from obtaining diplomas to other naughtier subjects. Apparently something new that the a-----les have concocted to bypass conventional ad blocking programmes.

There is one appearing that advertises a site where suitable software can be purchased to eliminate this problem. This site does exist and possibly genuine but it's in U.S.A. I think. Download is available at $9.95, credit cards can be used - don't think I'd trust it though, probably a scam to get card details?? What the hell will they come up with next?

Google toolbar & associated blocker work for me... Haven't seen these though, what types of dodgy sites have you been looking at?? :P

This one :lol:

They don't advertise porn sites specifically. As mentioned, diplomas, certificates and various other types of qualifications. There are others refering to being more attractive to women (how do they know which gender will read the pop up?) penile extension :o etc. Everything points to coming from U.S.

Apparently a way has been found to access p.c.'s through open ports which are used by Windows Messenger. This applies to these adverts AND hackers. Firewalls etc. don't seem to have any effect.

I was advised to disable Windows Messenger which so far seems to have worked. Obviously not a suitable fix it you use that service though.

I believe (if you want to use windows messenger) then the discombobulate utility at www.grc.com is the answer (or i may have got the name wrong but I know that site has a utility to fix it). I posted alot of info on avoiding pop-up ads in another thread somewhere :)

I used to get one like that. I followed the advice from a thread somewhere on here (might have been Gareth?). There was a setting in windows to turn off messenger - this wasn't windows 'messenger' the chat program, it just disabled the pop up message that these spammers use as a back door.
