More 1275 transplant queries

Post by Mog-nuts »

Hi to you all,
I am about to fit a 1275 Ital engine into my Mog and want to temporarily us the 1098 Carb, manifold and exhaust. My query is, where do i connect the crankcase breather to that comes up fom the timing case?
There is a vacuum take off from the manifold but it has a servo connected to it. Do i put a T piece in here and would this be ok?
Any comments would be greatfully recieved. Keith

That would be a bit too much vacuum! Although - on a powrful Mini engine I have done that - but with a 1/8" diameter hole only. The breather must go to the inlet on the side of the carb - but I urge you to use a rocker cover with breather as well - in which case connect it to carb, and leave the timing cover breather open - but with a tube on leading somewhere the fumes won't leak into the car !

Just completed 1275 transplant and though i can fit the starting handle with the rad out,i cant get it to fully locate in the dog with the rad in,the rad seems to be too low(or the engine too high)
Any comments would be appreciated

Try settling the engine down on the mounts. ie - slacken all the nuts etc and give it a wiggle! It's no different to the 948/1098 engine in that area - so must be a problem with the towers and/or the mounts. Are they new mounts ?

They're the original mounts and towers,so should be ok. I will try your suggestion tomorrow Roy,thanks
What pressure rad cap is best suited to the Ital set up?

Anything that fits the rad will be fine! It's really not that important - as long as it seals the rad.

It's possible they go into the water jacket ? Although I guess if you have the rad on - you may have filled it already - so if there are no 'gushers' it will be fine !

Will also check that tomorrow when it's running. They all seemed to be blind holes when i checked them though.

Where do I get a copy of this Owen Burton oracle? I keep seeing mention of it as though it's some kind of humorous publication- could make interesting light reading?

While many mock it, most of the 'common knowledge' about tuning minors comes from it. Much of it is out of date but its a very useful resource.

" when it's running " - Ahh -such confidence

O ye of little faith ! ! Yes Roy,now up n running with no apparent problems. Just considering next mods and upgrade. only other mods on car are alternator and brake servo. Would welcome any suggestions as to which route to take now. Priorities etc and are there any mods not worth the trouble and expence ?
Thanks for any comments
