Master Cylinder Mods

I've almost finished installing a second hand marina Disc Brake Coversion (without the instructions!!) and seem to remember that you need to remove a rubber part from the original Master Cylinder to stop the brakes binding. I have a workshop manual with an exploded diagram of the Master Cylinder but can anyone please tell me if a: I actually need to do this and b: if so which part I need to remove.
