What is this hose for?

Post by Sidney'61 »

I'm sure theres a simple answer but as it's not standard I don't really know what it carries.
It runs from the brake servo.
Image
to the top of the manifold
Image
Thanks

ps. as a minimun, I would change that nasty bit of hard plastic pipe coming from your fuel pump for a proper piece of fuel line....

Yes, the vacuum from the inlet manifold is what powers the servo.

If it doesn't work, you're not hitting it with a big enough hammer.

Thanks Rich, but in simple terms what does it do?

P.S. Don't worry the pipe is being changed.

The servo is a mechanical assistance device - from your basic physics, you can't get owt for nowt so in order to assist the brakes it needs a force to act upon it. Inside the servo is a diaphram and the force is applied from the vacuum provided by the engine. This is stored in the servo until you need it when pressing the brake pedal....
