Sill Construction

Post by rachel_and_ian »

Hi
Looking at a very rusty 2 door 1960 saloon. I am trying to work out exactly how to fit the various sill parts. It needs a new box section and the under sill, plus kick plate and finisher. The inner sill inside the car seems fine. The floor should get away with a small patch.

Working from this diagram:

It is the floor edge panel that puzzles me. How far should it jut out past the box section bottom? My sills and floor are so far gone there that any measurement is lost. And how does it just fit to the floor?
Thanks for any help!!

Hi
On the original car the floor includes the floor edge panel - the whole floor is all one panel. For ease of repair the suppliers make these seperately and also the floor panel repair usually comes with the vertical part of the step sill panel - again to make repair easier. To get the floor edge panel in the right place its simplest to trial fit the outer repair panels first to line up with the door edge. Once this position is defined the floor edge panel can be tacked in and then fully welded to the floor, boxing panel etc.

Hope this helps!!!
