Correct door card style for 61 saloon.

Post by Sidney'61 »

Hi,
Which pattern door cards should a 1961 minor two door have? Its the interior with the wide stripes...
Image
sources seem to be a bit indecisive as to whether they be completely plain or be the style thats split into three horizontal strips.

I'll be making my own so I'd like to know which would look more original.
Thanks

Here is a pic of my 1961 it was an early one with clap hands wipers. You can see the three panel door cards

Thanks Rich and Roger, The '61 saloon pictured in 'Original Morris Minor' has the wrong ones then!
Unless it's possilby a difference between standard and delux models?

I don't know whether to make it in three stripes yet, maybe it's just extra unnecessary work, we'll see.

The only delux variant I know of was the duo tone interior which also used the 3 panel door cards, so, maybe the change to 3 panels came when the duo tone was introduced sometime in 61?

I've seen quite a few sII's with plain panels (both of mine were)
My 61 was a delux so it had duo-tone (so that's no help).

p.s. I wouldn't mind seeing your home made interior parts... Tips could come in handy for one or 2 of my ongoing projects.

I think the duo-tone style would have been introduced in late '61, mine is an early '61 model and according to the heritage certificate its a delux (although it doesnt have a 'D' in the chassis number so I'm not sure :-? )
Anyway, so I don't think the '59 to early '61 delux models were duo-tone just it's a possibility they had the slightly different cards. Who knows. I think I might just make plain ones anyway to make it easier.

I'll try and post some pictures and tips when its all finished. The photo in the first post is my mums homemade passenger seat. I'll maybe ask her to write an account with some more tips...

As your Mum is a Godess with the sewing machine some plain red door cards with black piping around the edges would look superb :-)

You'll find out my decision once the car is finished

I forgot to publish my findings before so here you go, duo-tone interior appeared on deluxe models as of october 1961, the difference between striped and plain cards on 59-61 cars is not down to whether it be delux or not but simply that 4-doors and travellers have striped cards whereas 2-doors and convertibles had plain ones! It seems a lot of 59-61 2-doors restored have been given the wrong doorcards as not many people (nor interior reproduction companies) realise they are different to the traveller.

Our '61 4Dr in Porcelain Green had the original beige interior when we got her. Door cards in three sections piped with self coloured piping around the edge.

Hmm. More evidence of Mog being unoriginal aesthetically: it's '59, and has flat (non-sectioned non-striped) cards. Ah well.

Good thread, this. Any ideas on how to redo the cards? My covers keep peeling off the cardboard unders.

Fin, yours is a two door isn't it? so the door cards should be plain.

They are quite easy to recover and the material usually just glues in place, if you can find small enough staples then you can use a staple gun on the back.
