Sealed Beam Units

Post by sixdogsisback »

I discovered my Minor has Mini sealed beam units fitted. The side lights shine through an unsilvered window in the glass. As one of these failed, I located and purchased two units on ebay. They are replacement units made by "Wagner"

Does anyone have any experience of this make of sealed beam unit. Would I have been better off with old, but unused Lucas ones? As I know that evacuated glass envelopes go "soft" with time, I thought the pattern ones might be a better bet

Would welcome any experiences.

Cheers, Clive.

Never heard of that make. Are you sure that they are UK products with left hand dip?
Personally I wouldn't bother with sealed beams. Go for a set of Wipac Quadoptic Halogens and see where you are going in the dark. Should cost you less than £30 a pair.

I stayed with the sealed beam units because I my car does not have sepperate side lights, thought it would be the least hassle. I think the Wagner ones are made in America. These are definately dipping to the left.

Do the Wipac Quadoptic units have side lights built in ? Where can i buy these from?

Thanks, Clive

Hello Clive,

either option is available, not sure who supplies them offhand, try Vehicle Wiring Products?

Thanks for your support chaps. I see there are some Wipac quadoptic units on ebay for about £34. Also Premier Wiring systems have some. http://www.premierwiring.co.uk/ I have dealt with them before and they are at the Auto Jumbles at the classic car shows. I think for £40 I will upgrade my lights so I can take the car out at night. Up until now, the lights have been purely something to pass the MOT with, along with a handbrake.

Any of the Mini places - Minisport/Minspares etc. But just try your units - you've bought them now anyway!

Quadoptics are available with or without sidelights. Most Minor suppliers should have them.
