Are these 7 leaf springs correct for my '55 series 2?????

Hello everyone. just been doing some more work on my Minor and I've noticed that it seems to have 7 leaf springs (the car is a 4 door saloon - 1955). I was under the impression that the rear springs had fewer leaves on this model???????

I suspect that the springs cam with a replacement rear axle which may have been fitted in the past.

What do you reckon folks????

The seven leaf springs are correct for the year of your car. They were replaced on saloons with five leaf springs sometime in 1959 to 'soften the ride'.
Remember if you swap from seven to five you'll need new U bolts as the seven ones are longer.

The Series MM and Series II were fitted with 7 leaf springs. However these leaves were 5.56mm thick. Total thickness 38.92mm, as opposed to the Traveller 7 leaf springs which were 6.35mm thick, total thickness 44.45mm.
Measure the total thickness of the springs and decide whether they are original SII springs or replacement Traveller springs
Fitting Traveller springs to a Series MM/II will result in a harder ride and less predictable handling. (Been there, seen it, done it!).
If you are not a stickler for originality then the best compromise is to fit 5 leaf M1000 saloon springs, 6.35mm thick , total thickness 31.75mm
