Door fitting

Post by PAULJ »

Hi all, well I got round to fitting the doors today. Drivers side no problem but the passenger side not so well. Is there a way of moving the the doors forward as in away from the B post. Shims move it towards the post. The door is touching the B post. Anyone had this problem before.
Some advice, Fit the doors before the wings. I didn't

ok well yes doors first and fit the rest to the doors
there are several ways in which to move the door towards the A post
you can grind the back off the hinge a bit

or you can bend the door part where the hinge is, in otherwords by putting a socket on the hinge bolt and pushing the door shut will have an affect of pushing the door hinge in slightly

how much does it need moving

Well it is just touching so a couple of mm should do it. Will the socket trick make that much up.

I think for the sake of a neat and pleasing appearance, I would thin the hinge down by 2 mm. You get this problem when replacing doors as they were chosen for "best fit" at the factory due to the variation in body and door sizes from new.

Well its nice to know its not something I have done. I suppose to grind 2mm off the hinge would be an engineering job?

For it to be perfectly flat I guess it would be but you could get somewhere near with a bech grinder.
