I broke down in the MG during the week. 1.3 miles after filling up.
Anyone like to guess?

Right first time.
The nice man from the RAC brought me home and I used the electric fuel pump to pump it all out! Fortunately I was nearly out of petrol so it basically neat diesel. I sold it to my neighbour to put in his Land Rover so it wasn't too expensive a mistake. I put one gallon of petrol in to get me to the petrol station, it ran like a pig on what was probably 30% diesel but it's fine now I have diluted it out with decent petrol.
As an aside when I took the float chamber lids off to get the diesel out I was impressed with how clean they were. It looks like the diesel has removed all the old petrol brown staining that was in there.
