They allways say it's a classic Minor breakdown. But for the first time ever after 7 years of ownership and 5 cars it happened to me. I got 1/2 mile down the road and the engine stopped.
You know what I had to do and you'll be happy to know it worked.
Older and more confused than I could ever imagine possible.

First time that happened to me I was in the Blackwall Tunnel... not nice...

You won't get 1/2 mile (unless downhill) with secret pump switch off!

Aah, sticking fuel pump, I've been warned about this, especially as my fuel pump is a bit old...am I right in thinking a gentle tap on the fuel pump should get things going again?

Well the whack on the pump worked the other day but not this evening. Drove 10 miles in the heat of the day without a problem but this evening it conked out 5 times. I whacked the pump & cleaned the points and it would start and run a bit more then loose power and conk out again.
Must admit the engine feels a bit tight so don't now if a need for a tune up is exacerpating another problem but I'm stumped.
