MGF Wheels which nuts?

Hi All,

I have purchased a set of 2nd hand MGF 15in wheels. Currently I have Marina wheels but the wheel nuts are too small for the MGF wheels. I had a look on the Midland Wheels web site and there are various nuts to buy but which thread type do I need and I should I have tapered wheel nuts or sleeves?

I remember reading a thread not too long ago (can't find it now) with someone saying they had replaced the wheel studs with Montego studs and used these wheel nuts - are these better and would I have to drill out the holes in the hubs to take these studs?

I had a look at an MGF in tesco's car park and it seemed to have tapered wheel nuts and the owner wasn't too keen on letting me undo one to have a good look. You's think nobody had asked to look at their nuts before

Also the wheels came with good tyres but two are 205 and two are 185 are these likely to be too wide for a standard minor wheel arch?

Anyway hope someone can help? Jeff

205 is definat;y too wide. 185 you are likely to get away with.

Do you still have the Marina studs.... Callyspoy might be the chap to speak to re this.

Maybe need to buy MGF nuts Jeff ! Or make up sleeve nuts if the holes are bigger than the studs you have ? The 185/205 thing is normal for an MGF - with engine in the rear they put the larger tyres on there - but I 'think' the wheels are the same. You got a good deal with these wheels! Made me jealous - I'm looking for a set for my TR7. Cheap as chips down south - but any that appear in the north are v expensive.

the mgf / metro uses a 12mm stud so the mg / metro nuts will not fit onto the marina 3/8 unf stud. The marina stud itself has a very wide shoulder so the actual difference between the two studs at the hub is not that great.

I got a set of studs from ebay and for 14.99 quid + postage and he has some more..

a very helpful poster ( mentioning no names ) on this site drilled out the hubs for 20 pounds

The only reason i did this was because, like you, i was not able to find a set of sleeve nuts to do the job. As another poster said calspoy might be able to help you.

it might be worth asking what they are sleeved out to (if that makes sense)? or maybe bmc can answer that question.

Having had a look at the pic the washers seem to be flat which will not work if the mgf has a cone shaped shoulder.. certainly the steel wheels do
