I had to do a bit of woodworking yesterday and I found my chisels were all quite rusty
.
Has anyone got a recipe for something to stop this, or know of a good product?
They were in the shed which is water tight and they weren't put away wet.

Quick spray with WD40 before you put them away. Or you can get a sachet of magic stuff to prevent rust and from Gun shops I used one to great avantage in my gun cabinet. You just leave it in the box with the tools and they don't rust.
This message board is like a family - you can't choose the other members!! But remember engine oil is thicker than water.

Used to use VCI (Vapour Corrosion Inhibitor) paper years ago for preventing car panels etc rusting during transit.

You could try putting some Hammerite Kurust on, find that works well.

ok one for me as a qualified joiner
the best stuff to use ( after you have cleaned them of rust ) id to rub some wax onto the metal parts ( thats if you do not use them very often )
thats is my beat tip of the day, going to have a lie down now

A rusty tool box?
[eh-hem]
I've wrapped in oil soaked rag and stored in a plastic bag.
Older and more confused than I could ever imagine possible.

My chippy instructor told us to use 'white oil', which is paraffin oil. Shane

How about 3 in 1 ?
That looks like it should work OK.
I've collected tools from all sorts of trades but rarely need to use them.

ok from a joiners point of veiw and if you are using the tools for woodwork then oil is not a good idea, as it gets into the timber if you do not wipe them clean before hand
like i said before wax is perfect
