Convertible rear window

Post by R_Parr »

I know this may sound a very strange question but does anyone have a picture of the outside and inside of a convetible rear window.

I have never seen a convertible but I have seen pictures and if im right the rear window is plastic (can this be glass?), but I like the idea of converting a saloon into a convertible.

Thanks,
Rhys.

Yep, plastic. Not sure a glass one could be made to work

It has to be plastic because it folds when the roof is retracted.

There are enough convertibles around without having to hack the roof off a saloon.

however if you have a saloon that you have spent a lot of money on and you know is reliable or has been modified in a way to do exactly what you want... hacking the roof off seems a sensible way to go..

I bought the car to tinker with and restore - that's half the fun of having a classic car!

So I think hacking the roof off is a jolly good idea, keeps me busy in my gap year between sixth form and uni.

Anyone else's thoughts?
I have never seen a convertible  , so I guess thats my next task.

Don't even think of chopping the roof off unless the chassis and sills are sound. It will sink in the middle and you won't be able to shut the doors

Seriously, it's a big job to tackle unless you know what you are doing. Get some proper advice before 'hacking' it off.

Get some information on the proper conversion kit. Then you will have some idea what you are letting yourself in for. Do a lesser job and you will have ruined your car. It will be undrivable and unsellable.
other than that - go for it! Soft tops are brill!
