I'm lucky in that its pretty flat around here and as I'm only chasing a 7 year old It's not really for wellying along.
The gearing is quite low 48T front cog to a 20T rear so gearing is nice and low anyway.
BMC, I was looking for a 4 gear hub unit for an older bike I was going to tart up but like you say much rarer and the amount it would cost for all the other nicknaks it needed (wheels, front crank, pedals) anyway would have cost a fortune.
Which is why I looked for a good doner bike. Trouble was this is far to good just to strip down. So looks like its the tip for the older frame and happy 3 speeding for me
Peetee it might end up with you for a little fettle on the head bearing. But it seems to be freeing up so it might just need using a bit.
I've got an old hub gear somewhere so will take that apart for a good look. Have always been fascinated by them as most seem to soldier on for ever with little/no maintenance.
