Spin on oil filter

Post by ricky »

Thought I'd go down the spin-on route, however, before I have a go, I presume it's simply a case of removal of the nuts and hose and extracting the bolts from the sump. The conversion has a double thread so is the extraction done by putting the two bolts on a single thread and extracting the bolt that way or is there a tool that I need.

yes take the 2 nuts off the original oil filter housing which is on the block
use 2 nuts to extract the studs, put the 2 new studs in and connect the metal pipe oil pipe to it, take that off the original housing first

Don't understand 'the conversion has a double thread' ??????? Do you mean - it comes with studs - with threads at each end ? Or something completely different?
Personally - I find the standard filter set-up perfectly satisfactory - and very easy (and cheap) to change the filter! But good luck with the conversion!

Don't think the filtering is any better - but it does eliminate the old chestnut of throwing away the base plate with the old filter!

the new filter is a lot easier and quicker to change, i never had the problem with the base plate my problems was always getting the little rubber seal out which I found was the pain.

Don't bother - the seal can be used over and over again!

I was hoping for the easier and quicker filter change, and yes it would now appear that I misplaced the baseplate at the last service dohhhh.

Thanks for the advice and support.

Ah well - your engine has had no filtering then ! In your case the new filter arrangement will do some good!
