I fitted a nice Stainless Steel dip stick to my B series car.
It has three problems - not good for such a simple tool.
a) It is so smooth and clean the oil doesn't stick to it!! The solution was to rough it up with some wet and dry.
b) It reads 6mm high compared with the original one.
c) its round in section rather than flattened like the original so its harder to read.
Still I'm going to keep it because it has one big advantage. It looks good.
Roger.

Keep the pretty one in the engine and the proper one in the boot for when you need to check the oil

It reads 6mm high?
Does this mean you'll save 6mm worth of oil each engine change

Roger, I had the same problem with a chrome dipstick for a Mini around 1996 I think. I carried on using it just compensating for the error. In the end I removed it when the Mini went and I sold it on ebay last year as I did not fancy trying to use it on the Moggies.
