Sagging seats!!

Post by Fozz »

I have just got a 1969 2 door saloon which is in lovely condition on the outside but scruffy on the inside!
The seat covers are in reasonable condition, but the seats themselves are really saggy, and I wondered if it's possible to take the covers off and stuff them with extra padding of some sort to revive them a bit.
I'm quite short and it would be much easier using the pedals if the seat was firmer.

Most likely the padding is fine but the elasticated straps have perished (rather like very old underwear...).
Pretty much every Minor spares specialist will be able to sell you some new straps - they are a very common thing to replace, as lets face it most have been in use well beyond their expeced lifetime.

If you look under the seat you will see that the seat basis supported by rubber webbing straps which usually stretch. These can be replaced which should make the seats a little more comfortable.
The other alternative is to upgrade the seats to something a lot more comfortable.

A quick tip, if you have an old inner tube lying around you can cut seat straps out of it!

Thanks for your replies, will have a good look at the weekend and see what I can do. I'm sure my husband has a spare inner tube around somewhere!

It's a bit of a nightmare to cut and fit straps from scrap rubber - the fixing wires will soon pull through inner tube. The correct new straps are not expensive - use a set of them on the driver's seat and can often salvage enough good straps from the two seats to refurb the passenger seat (which has generally seen much less service !).
