Had a great time - thanks to Cam for mentioning the rally so we had 4 to choose from and not just 3 potential rallies today

Great photo's Cam

For anyone who wasn't there the photos barely scratch the surface. There were different marques as far as the eye could see with some really superb cars.
And well done To Gillian for winning best in category (with the ex Forestry commission van) and I bet you were close to best in show - the crowd were opting for your's just as often as the MGA.

Hope everyone at Bltchley had an equally good time

Hi,

It was good to see you there Cam, nice pictures. It was nice to chat with like minded people about different experiences. The weather was great, not too sunny as to make it unbearable but not cold either. The venue was great, lots for the children to do and fantastic gardens to walk around. Good sized Auto-jumble too, with lots of different stalls, Perhaps next time, in September, I'll be there to display.
The one thing I've come away with today is the fact that pictures do nothing justice. The first thing was the van, it looks like it left the showroom yesterday, the engine bay is shinier than my car....!!!!! The second was icemanste's interior, which is amazing in real life. I want one, in fact I want three, and perhaps one for the MG too...

A great day and I hope see you all again soon.

Ray is quite right about the pictures, I only took the odd few but I understand there were approximately thousand cars in attandance. It's a great venue and Andrew Greenwood hosts events there twice a year (May & September).

It was great to meet up and chat with pfgiz, Ray, Margaret & Luke, Leafie and many others.

I was really pleased that Gill won the best commercial/military vehicle. It's always nice especially at such a large and varied event.

Just for reference, here is a shot of the engine bay that pfgiz is talking about and I guess it's true that pictures don't always do vehicles justice, but it works both ways as Gracie looks worse in real life than in pictures!!

I meant to ask, on things like the windscreen wiper motor did you get a new replacement or refurbish your existing one? If you refurbished how did you get it looking so clean?

The body of the motor was brand new which I had 'in stock' for years but it had no internals! I sprayed the steel motor case of the body hammerite smooth black and built it back up with the good internals of another motor and plenty of fresh grease.

The other parts such as the carb, dizzy etc were lying around for years in my garage so I stripped them down to the last part, degreased and scrubbed them, replaced any damaged parts (usually with other second hand servicable bits) and rebuilt the units.

Air filter was a bit rusty as was the rocker cover, so they were stripped back to bare metal and painted the appropriate colour.

Actually, now you come to mention it, quite a lot of the bits are second hand. The exhaust/inlet manifold was the van's original I think.

Nah. I was just practicing on the van. I'll do it right for DUD!

Even got the same battery & leads! Just scrubbed clean in the sink!

Well that's the trick you see. Being as it was for Gill's van I could not REALLY get in trouble making a mess in the sink.

And having bits strewn about the house.

I'm sure that when I get to the same stage with DUD that I will have to get my own sink outside!

DUD is something else already!!

He's a bit worse for wear.

Actually, we have used pretty much all our funds up on the van so there's very little left for DUD which means I will have to do virtually everything myself. In fact the only thing which worries me is the painting but I'll have to see when the time comes.

I am literally aching to get stuck into DUD and hopefully next month I can get him on the body roller and get stuck in properly.

I won't be doing him to win prizes, just for my own satisfaction of turning a virtual basket case into a lovely car. Especially such an early car with so much history. It would be an honour to be the one to return him to the road and his former glory.

Nice touch that you remembered to brew up for yourself as well this time.

. It was great to see the van. it's a credit to you both and I would recommend it to anybody as a ''must see''.

This was a great day out i went in my moggy 100 mile round trip was great never been that far in her looking forward to more of these.
Was not sure if there was any peopl there local to me in Ormskirk any branch near and where they meet like these sort of things.
