Chrome Window Surround???

Post by stephenpolhill »

Hi there. I went to the Shuttleworth Classic Car show on Monday and a man who said I rather liked the original condition of my car, advised me that if mine is a Delux model (according to a few people on here, it is as it has the D in the car no.) it should have the stainless steel window surround.

After looking at quite a few of the other Minors at the show, mine was one of the only ones without this and just the standard body coloured metal.
We also studied the parts book and it said that the steel is standard in the delux model and the body colour is standard on the normal spec.

1. Does anyone know how I can really tell if a car is a Delux spec?
2. If I can get hold of some, should I replace my surrounds with the stainless steel as I would like originality but also think the steel looks quite smart?
3. Are they easy to fit?
Thanks alot
Steve

Your car never had stainless frames as standard. Series 5 2 door cars were always painted. If you want to fit them you will need some off a Traveller and they are fairly straight forward to fit. As I've said before if you have a "D" in the chassis number then it is Delux spec but that didn't mean stainless frmaes.

The delux spec wasn't too comprehensive, a set of overriders on the bumpers front and rear, duotone seats in some cases and a heater? The Traveller had carpets instead of just rubber mats. As far as I am aware stainless steel front window frames were fitted to lowlight Series MMs, Travellers and 4 doors (front and rear side windows). I don't think that they were fitted to 2 door Minor 1000s in standard or delux spec.

Ah that would explain it because I think I only looked at the windows of trav's and 4drs.
So it is a delux spec but 2doors didn't have the stainless steel. That explains it all then. Thanks guys.
It's just it showed it as delux - stainless steel and standard - body colour in the part catalogue folder.

For a Minor 1000 (Series 5) that is correct !
