Hi all,

Any ideas what I've done - and what should the points gap be on a 1300 A series ???

Points possibly earthed, is the insulation collar in place under the securing nut on the leaf spring? Lead from codensor connects to same place. Assuming the same arrangement as 25D distributor.

Bingo !!

You got it on the nail - thanks,

Managed to get the spring caught under the insulator (slightly different configuration on later 1300) and it was earthing out !

Thats sorted, gapped the points to 'thumbnail' at the mo 'til further info appears  Would this be why it missfires under load ? 50+ mph

I had the same problem with my Fiat 500. Misfiring at 80+ kmph(~50 mph). It was an insulation problem where the wire entered the distributor.

Good, it's easily done, been there! Logically had to be something relating to points & condensor change. You would have been extremely unlucky if it had been something else. Unfortunately don't know correct gap for your points. But I would have thought 15 thou is not far off, at least it got you going. Others with similar engine should know.

14 to 16 thou or 0.35 to 0.4 mm. That is for the 1300 Ital engine with the Lucas 45D4 distributor

I have a habit of forgetting to replace the rotor arm!
