it does confuse me sometimes with insurance! i just got a re quote for my insurance as a standard minor (803 engine), on third party for a 23 year old with 2 years no claims it went up by £20 to £355.
Having declared all of my mods(wheels, 2 litre fiat, suspension, brakes etc), fully comp with a difference company £333!!
so its actually cheaper for me to make my car a death trap! that last bit is a joke obviously, but it still astounds me!

well, i don't know yet! i got it through "classic line" who i saw are the people taht work with the NSRA insurance(which plastic orange recommended!!) so i figured they would be okay...and there it was, beautiful! only issue is they wouldn't insure me for commuting because of my job! bit of a pain, but as i only work 1.5/2 miles away, it may convince me to walk to work!

Welcome to the forum. Good name, chap, The good old days when men were chaps and worked in sheds with pictures of Spitfires on the wall...
Thats a bit much, I'm 18 and not long passed my test. Footman James insured me for about £650 third party, fire and theft on a 1964 1098. I think they said fully comp would be about £980. You have to be a member of the MMOC so they know you are going to look after it.
It helps if you use specialst insurance as on compare the meerkat, sorry, market I was getting stupid quotes from 'normal' insurers.

I'm with Footman James and it cost me £1200 for a year.
Well worth it though to drive a Minor if you ask me

If it doesn't work, you're not hitting it with a big enough hammer.

Hi George, I'm 17 too and not long since passed my test, I'm insured with footman james, fully comp and under my own name on my 1275 modified minor for around £940.
Of course the price depends on where you live and where the car will be parked but it'll generally be a lot cheaper than with a modern car, and of course it's even cheaper if you join the owners club.
It's definitely worth getting a minor, it's cheap, easy to work on and fun to drive, also it stands out from all the corsas and saxos in the school carpark

im 17 and just passed my test and footman james gave me insurance for 937 quid fully comp. unlimited miles and breakdown cover but you do have to be a part of tyhe minor club to get it so cheap. its only 24 quid to join but it knocked a lot of my insurance.

When I was a lad (in the olden days of the 80's) the club insurance had flat rates fgor young drivers but that stopped maybe a decade ago or longer.
The club insurance scheme was with AON but they were bought out this year by Footman James so by default the club insurance is with Footman James.
The club put in hard work year on year to ensure young drivers get a fair deal and this should now be maintained by FJ - there was some teeting trouble a few months ago but it sounds like this was resolved.
I had a Minor as my first car at 17 and have never regretted it. I've had 15 Minors so far but that's taken me 20 years!

Hello there !
I have always insured my girl with RH Insurance - very well priced. My advice is to shop around as some insurers particularly like to insure minors - and some don't like to deal with drivers under 24/25 yrs for example.
I am 28 and was horrified to see my annual insurance premium this year go up from £65 to £78 lol
That's with unlimited mileage, breakdown (incl in europe), fully comp with me and my partner and can also be used for business if i like!
Happy days of motoring

What experiance have people had with online comparison sites?
Using Compare the Market I get quotes of around £1100 at the cheapest on my fictional full time license held with me being 17, car parked on drive and doing 10,000 miles a year.
(Also Compare the Market only does cars post 1970! I'd have a very late Minor!)
I can't help feeling it is either very cheap or very expensive though!

I'm yet to pass my driving test, but have had a gaggle about for some insurance quotes on my '68 mogbeast, and the cheapest I've come across is Kwik-fit, which, if I remember rightly, was something between £600-£700 TPF&T, 8k miles, driveway parked etcetc - a quote found on one of these comparison websites.
Tried Footman James, only to be told they couldn't give me a quote without holding a full license, which is fair enough I suppose.
