They could have read this thread and realised its worth more than initially asked for. Just a thought.

Does seem a bit fishy actually. Leave your details with him, saying that the offer is still on the table. Maybe even go round and wave the wad under his nose. Something just doesn't sit right. I feel that there is a bit of a bluff going on here IMHO. Don't give up.

Does he (the owner) know that to get the £2K scrappage money the car has to have a current MOT. You haven't mentioned whether it has.

May help your case.

It does have an MOT Lou - mentioned earlier in the post.

I agree with Commercialman - I suspect that the owner (or a potential buyer) has read this thread, seen the comments suggesting it's a bargain and realised that it's under priced. Either someone else has made him a better offer or it will probably be appearing on E-Bay very soon :-?

I wouldn't say it was a bargain price - just realistic. Folk seem to be very greedy these days. I only had 3 potential buyers for Bessie - and it was well underpriced. I'd guess, he'll come round to the original price sometime soon.

UPDATE

Post by Ondergard »

The car has now been officially withdrawn from sale on the only website it was advertised on - Classic Cars For Sale .co.uk - so I guess he meant what he said about the scrappage.

A bloody shame, I call it.

In fact - the Government only gives a 'grant' of £1000 - the car company provides the other £1000, which they will do anyway (and probably more!!!) if you walk in and buy a a new car anytime soon. So make sure the owner realises he is actually only going to get a £1000 extra - not £2,000.
