I always go to the post office. I hate waiting in a queue though!

I was working on the theory that someone somewhere looks at numbers of tax discs issued, rather than the financial aspect, and its the number of transactions that are considered when looking at the viabiltity of keeping a PO open. I may be completely wrong about that but I'd sooner support an establishment where they help you stick all the stamps on the pile of MMOC branch newsletters that I've took in to post (obviously when there isn't a queue behind me!) than use the internet. It must be one of the few 'shops' these days that is a pleasure to visit.

how many of you go to the post office and how many go on line
I tend to do online if the car is registered to me and already taxed. However in many cases I've just bought the car or just spent ages putting it back on the road - in which case I want to do it same day. The post office can be tricky unless you make sure you have all the right paperwork.
One insurance company gave me 2 bits of paper headed 'certificate of ###' - I took the one that said certificate of cover but Post Office didn't like that. When I got home (in a bad mood) I found the other sheet that said "Certificate of insurance"
I certainly don't blame the post office for having to follow the rules - it's the people who make the rules that make it hard. There's no reason why you should have to take the paperwork to the counter as it's all in a database - The post office should have been allowed access to the same database as is used for online car tax.

At least you dont have to fill the forms in now at the PO, they just check the docs, and type it in to their computer. Much quicker...

On line, the only sub PO around here (there are three within a reasonable distance) that does car tax is normally queued out of the door.
