Doesn't bigger turbo = more lag?
I thought that was why people are going over to dual turbo set ups.,

Quite nice for top speed, but i would use small twin turbo's for the acceleration. Also if you dont mind me asking, what engine is that?.

turbo size,

Post by trmog23 »

aup jonathon, thats no good its not a road car,ha ha,not any difference ,looks like a holset turbo ,regarding turbo lag this car launches at 5 th revs with boost up for its quarter mile runs ,tried all the piddlin turbos and thrown them in the bin, actually the h1e holset comes on boost at lower revs than a T34 garret and req way less boost to make bigger power, all the 4 cylinder drag cars in the states use them, the engine is a cosworth 4x4 mountune spec ,with 4 wheel drive on our mog,it launches so hard it trys to lift the front wheels in the air,and thats on street treads

:D :D dohh!!, looks great really. What do you expect to see performance wise.
Had you thought of supercharging ?, I have seen the results from the Rotrex units down at Omex and they are awsome. With a bit more spent on some internals ,other than forged pistons and uprated rods they reckon 650bhp is easy from a 2ltr Zetec.
Are you going to have a go on the track at the MMOC National. We should have booking forms produced soon so get in early, I think the weekend will be very busy.

dual turbo set ups are for straight six or v8 motors not 4 cylinders the use of nitrous oxide keeps the turbo spooled up so lag is not to bad of a problem.

small turbos run out of steam to soon and so are no good for strip use,and you wouldent fit 2 on a four pot

Rob, that's one hell of an intercooler too! Looks good.

Jonathon, the test track at Haynes is quite short (I think it was about 30 second laps if the hairpins used rather than just the oval), just about 3rd gear needed, also the tarmac is quite abrasive, went testing there a few years ago.
