fuel pump diode

Post by maroon »

hi about 7 months my traveller would not start no tic noise so cleaned up
the points in the pump and found a bubbled up thing (the diode) we
thought it was just for the radio so did not worry i have not done any mileage just worked on it every weekend now nearly ready for mot and it
starts runs and intermittently dies of it was the pump being lazzy i could
tap it and it would go tic tic and the car picked up so i brought new points and adiaphram and seat them by trial and error then that night looked for the correct way of doing it on the internet and found some instructions on su web sight and found in other places that the diode stops arking in the points so i do need it but i cant find them for sale any where has any one replaced theres ?
my pump is AUA4080 but i think they all look similer where the points are.
i forgot to say the points were pitted again

Its not a diode its a capacitor and almost any low value cap (100n)with a working voltage around 250 volts will do try your local telly repair shop and I think they were only fitted to stop interference with the radio and not as standard (not got one on my pump maybe its only later ones) but it will reduce the effects of spark errosion of the points.

I intend to live forever.....so far so good

Any capacitor sold as 'radio suppressor' will do - just fit it externally if too big to go internally. But it's not essential - the pump should run without it.
