Traveller Panel Replacement

Post by bloodyank »

I have always wanted to replace the alum. panels with wood ones, and being a fairly handy chippie, I decided to have a go, and to refinish my wood at the same time.
After getting the panels out, I can see it's going to be hard to bend the plywood to accept the outward curve of the forward panels, and to attach them, as the curve is "below deck" there.
Will I have to remove the entire side from the car to do this? I don't see any other way, and I'm dreading that job, mostly from the horror stories I have read about refitting the gutters on the roof.
Help!
Thanks-

It's certainly not easy. Just keep the aluminium!

You can take the back off in one piece , no need to remove the rear roof and guttering. So long as you brace the wood once its off then re paneling should be quite straight forward.

I thought all ply was 'bendy' - to a degree!

You can get some amazing vinyl type graphics done - what about a vinyl print of wood grain that is stuck onto the aluminium panel?

Wow, great! So I'll brace the side well, and then slide the bottom out first? Should I prop up the roof as well? I think I'll just do one side at a time...

You unbolt the roof remove, the screws fastening the wood to the wheel arch flange, the B post bolts and the bolts into the boot floor and the whole assembly will lift up and off. Its a two person job. Once its off brace side to side to stop it pulling the roof joints and doing the splits :D
