SU H1 Carb

Post by DAVIDMCCULLOUGH »

Does anyone know if the SU H1 carb that is fitted to the series 11 will do for the sidevalve engine? There seems to be lots more of these available. I know the float chambers may be different angles, can they be swapped between carbs?

The SII carb can be used on the MM if you swap the float chambers and maybe the choke linkage. The only other significant difference is the vacuum pipe takeoff which will need to be blocked off. I had one on my car for many years.

Today I finally fitted the S11 carb that I bought off ebay. This was pretty straightfoward and I only had to make a bracketfor the throttle cable as the linkage is now at the back and the float towards the front. The old carb was very worn at the butterfly and didnt tick over well, at traffic lights you had to keep the revs up or it would stall and not want to start agin, very annoying!!

I did about 20 miles today and all seems good. Im going to use it for work the next few days to see what cold starts and getting going will be like. Fingers crossed :D

You can turn the float chamber around and swap the choke linkage over using the MM carb linkage.
