Now then, a friend of mine has a rather nice Rover P5B, 1972. Same age as my Trav, and it's funny looking at them next to each other, like the rich uncle and the spinster or something.

Thing is, he's just lost his keys. And doesn't have a clue about what to do. And neither do I. How on earth do you go about identifying and finding replacement keys? Any clues, anyone?

First move - try your Minor keys in the locks! Garages used to carry boards of keys - you could work through them till finding on that fitted. These are now to be seen at classic car shows - but unlikely they will give you the board away - although you can only ask! And just sometimes - the number was stamped on the ignition switch lock - so if the car is open, worth a close inspection.
And lesson for us all - make a note of key numbers and keep in a safe place ! Spare set may be handy too.

I have a Very late traveller which came with a factory fit Steering Lock



Fortunatly the car came with 3 copies

thats the same as my pick up Dan and I only have the one key with the steering lock aswell

As soon as I get a car I get another set or if they're not available I get one made up. Saves the heartache of not being able to get in and drive!

Those keys are now completely unobtainable so if I somehow lose them all then Its game over.

I would need to fit an earlier steering colum and a central ignition switch, so not the end of the world. But still a pain in the backsdie

Sorry for protracted silence; just come back from a long trundle round Wales. Thanks, bmcecosse; I've passed on the gen to the keyless wonder. Haven't heard how he's got on yet.
