PSL, You cast enough doubt for me to check , even though I did when I fitted it . Just been to the garage to recheck , there is an arrow indicating direction of flow & both mine & Frank's are correct. In fact I think I can just see the arrow on Frank's pic but it may be just lighting .
Frank, I would put money on the law of SOD applying here. I reckon its nowt to do with carburettor problems as 3 have been the same. It sounds like sparks! Check that your condensor & coil are ok, and points gap right. Also check the little earth wire inside the distributor, when it breaks you can get misfiring. So often faults appear coincidentally that I always tend approach from the other direction now!!
well changed the HT leads (the only thing that wasn't new on the engine!! ) and switched the petrol from unleaded to LRP and guess what, the engine is working like a dream!! that shows to what quality of petrol we get in Malta! :S
Well - if it's solved - that's great news! Just don't see the connection. Would be interesting to swop the HT leads back - and see if the problem returned.
hmm that would have been a good idea pity I already threw them away I could always switch to unleaded and check if the problem returns, to be honest the old ht leads where very firm when removed they remained in the shape they were on the engine as if they were solid!
